I am proud to be part of this supportive network of furniture designers and makers which includes many of the best craftspeople from all parts of northern England. The group's aim is to promote the industry at our level through an email forum, a website and regular public exhibitions.

Peter Toaig was the originator of onetree, the project which we jointly co-ordinated. He is a superb craftsman and, as well as continuing his business as a designer and maker, runs furniture making courses from his Cumbrian workshop. See his separate website: www.fellsidewood.co.uk

The One Oak project has been directly inspired by onetree and is one of many follow up projects. It is current and is being organised very professionally by the Sylva Foundation. The tree was felled on the Blenheim Estate in January, 2010 and the project is concentrated in Oxfordshire.

The Mersey Forest was established in 1995. Based in NW England its aim is: "...to transform the landscape through woodland planting and the creation of associated habitats to produce longterm sustainable benefits for the economy, people and wildlife". A onetree surplus of £24,500 was donated to the MF who, in conjunction with the Woodland Trust, used the money as a start-up fund to create a woodland that is part of the onetree legacy.

Frankland Tree Services prides itself on its environmental policy. By converting felled trees into usable planks of timber, instead of treating them as firewood, they are making the most of a beautiful, sustainable resource and adding to the local economy. I am pleased to have used them as a major supplier in recent years.
